Day Two - Favorite Klefan Quote (late)
Klaus: “What is wrong with YOU? Do you really have no appreciation for me?”
Chipmunksallshipklefan (hilarious name) made a great post about this already. When Klaus said this, I facepalmed, laughed, and thought, “Klefan is legit.” Klaus is horrifically torturing Damon, and making his brother watch. This, of course, prompts the stunned and horrified Stefan to quietly ask, “What is wrong with you?” Klaus turns around and directs the same question to him, getting all defensive and huffy. He somehow manages to justify this as an unselfish act, even saying that Stefan should thank him. Klaus says he wants Stefan to direct his self hatred at Klaus, showing how bizarrely desperate he is to have Stefan pay attention to him. (Because this is Klaus’s idea of love, no wonder everyone around him is doomed.) Remarkably, Klaus’s statement actually wakes Stefan up and he decides to move on from his revenge scheme.

DAY1 - Why you ship Klefan
The fact that Klaus didn’t want to sacrifice Stefan was interesting to me. Then Klaus gleefully pulled Stefan down from his pedestal and force him to join him, so Stefan had to fight a perverse gratitude to Klaus because he also hated him. And Klaus seemed to live through Stefan’s bloodlust. Then it turns out Klaus knew him ages ago, and after a hostile meet-cute, they became fast friends. Klaus enjoyed Stefan’s penchant for torture, and Stefan felt comfortable enough showing him his list of victims, written in a secret closet. It was a relationship made in hell. Klaus still loves Chicago and the 1920s when they met.
Every character, including Stefan, likes good Stefan and abhors his horrific side. Damon is pretty accepting when it comes to bad deeds; he’s done and does his share. But even he is repulsed by Stefan’s eating habits. As a human, Elena loved his good side, including the darkness around the edges. Rebekah cared about Stefan in her fickle, vulnerable way, but she wasn’t always thrilled about his cockiness. Klaus is the only one who is just obsessed with Stefan’s barbaric side. How many times has he threatened to kill him, only ending their conversation with trying to convince him to join him again? There’s something compelling about Stefan’s dark side being some kind of sick gift to Klaus.
We’ve seen how Klaus treated his own family; he turned against those who loved him for centuries only because they had no use for him. He’s incredibly lonely, but someone like that should be incapable of genuine empathy and unselfishness. So his bond with Stefan makes sense. Stefan was as brutal as he was, making him feel less monstrous. On top of that, he hurts and controls Stefan because that’s all he knows. He forces Stefan to watch as he kills his girlfriend. He forces Stefan to turn into what he hates. He forces him to attack and terrorize his girlfriend. He tortures his brother in front of him, not to mention sticks his hand in a fire among other things. But Klaus actually justifies this. He’s doing it for Stefan, or Stefan made him angry.
Klaus can be possessive, annoyed by Damon’s presence to the point of wanting him dead. Stefan does not feel the same way, yet he knows the two are connected in a way he’ll never be able to escape, the same way he can’t escape his past. When he killed Klaus, he knew it was the right thing to do, but how could he not feel just a little bit of regret and grief, after all they’d been through?
